Recap: 8Shades Breakfast Club, Teapigs Edition

Our second edition of the #8ShadesBreakfastClub took place last weekend (31 July & 1 August 2021) at the Kerry Hotel, Hong Kong – this time with a special talk by Simon Disler, founder of Drinks99 and distributor of Teapigs in Hong Kong.

If you weren’t able to make it there in person, here’s everything you need to know to get all caught up:

Guests at the #8ShadesBreakfastClub flowed with Karina aka. @karina.yogawellness and Tavia aka. @taviajianghui for a 50-minute Yin & Yang flow class – a combination of Hatha yoga, core strengthening and full body blood circulation.

Besides active, flowing sequences, the class also included longer-held Yin poses that allowed for deeper stretches, which help the mind become more still and the body more flexible.⁣

Teapigs prepared a special tea tasting session of their latest cold brew teas, which are formulated to brew quickly in cold water – perfect for the hot Hong Kong summer. Flavours sampled included blackcurrant and raspberry, pink grapefruit, and watermelon and hibiscus.

Simon Disler of Drinks99 (the distributor of Teapigs in Hong Kong) gave an inspirational talk about his own journey into sustainability – from doing a conservation project in Costa Rica at the age of 18 to forging a deeper connection with sustainability after he became a father just 18 months ago.

Did you know? Teapigs is one of the first tea companies to go plastic-free – their tea bags are made from cornstarch, a natural carbohydrate extracted from corn, while the labels are made of paper. Everything is sealed with heat, so there’s no glue either!

Before finishing up with a delicious healthy breakfast at Kerry Hotel’s Lobby Lounge, our founder Emily Lam-Ho and fellow tea-lover reminded everyone that it’s about making small but conscious decisions to live a more sustainable life.

“I love tea – I went to boarding school in England so tea is a big part of my life,” she said. “When I realised that a lot of tea bags were made out of plastic, it really shocked me. So, we can all take little steps and little choices in life that together will have a bigger impact.”

Stay tuned for more #8ShadesBreakfastClub dates to come – we’d love to see you there!
